The argument in favor of using filler text goes something like this: If you use any real content in the Consulting Process anytime you reach.

In Brighton, most shops get noticed from the pavement long before anyone reads the fascia. A window is free advertising space that works every hour the street is busy — and on a Saturday in the North Laine or along Western Road, that is a lot of eyes. Window graphics let you use that glass properly, adding opening hours, a service list, a bit of personality or a seasonal message without cluttering the shopfront or hiding the stock inside.
The trick is treating window graphics as part of the same design as your signage, not an afterthought bolted on six months later. Matching typefaces, consistent colours and a shared visual language make a small shopfront look established and deliberate. Mismatched stickers make even a smart business look improvised.
Frosted vinyl is the workhorse of window graphics, and it suits almost every shopfront style, from a Regency bay window to a modern unit in a new development. Applied in bands, panels or full coverage, it gives privacy without blocking light — handy for treatment rooms, offices, salons and anywhere clients would rather not be watched from the street.
Quality cast vinyl will typically hold up for five to seven years outdoors. Cheaper calendered films can shrink and lift within two, especially on south-facing glass where the sun does its worst.
Cut vinyl lettering is the simplest way to add words to glass, and for many independents it does the heavy lifting that a fascia cannot. It is ideal for opening hours, "Est. 1998", a short line of services or a phrase that sums up what you do. Because it is cut rather than printed, it has no background film, so the glass stays clear and the lettering reads crisply from across the street.
A few practical points make a real difference. Choose a typeface that already appears on your signage so the two elements feel related, and keep letter height sensible: around 50–75mm is comfortable for a shop window, larger for a wide frontage or a side street with fast foot traffic. If your fascia uses a metallic finish, a matching vinyl or a gold-effect film will tie the window into it neatly. And keep the total amount of text modest — a window covered in information loses impact, while three or four lines land far better.
Printed graphics open up possibilities that cut vinyl cannot. A printed panel can show a photograph, an illustration, a menu, a seasonal promotion or an event poster, mounted on the inside of the glass or applied as a self-adhesive graphic. For cafés and restaurants, a printed menu panel beside the door answers the most common question before anyone walks in.
If you need to cover a large area — perhaps during a refit or while a unit is between tenants — contra-vision or one-way perf vinyl is the answer. From inside during daylight, you can see out reasonably well while the street sees a printed image. It is a neat solution for Brighton businesses with big, exposed frontages where blank glass would otherwise look neglected.
Window graphics are only as good as their installation. Vinyl should be applied to clean glass in mild conditions — ideally above 10°C and out of direct sunlight, which means a spring or autumn morning rather than a baking August afternoon. Allow 24 to 48 hours for the adhesive to settle before cleaning anywhere near the edges.
The best Brighton shopfronts read as one design: fascia, window graphics, door lettering and any A-boards all speaking the same visual language. Start with your signage, then choose window graphics that reinforce it rather than compete with it — a frosted band to frame the glass, cut lettering to name the business and give the essentials, and a printed panel or two to add warmth and detail.
Get those elements working together and your window stops being a pane of glass and becomes your most persuasive member of staff: on the pavement, on message, and on duty from morning until closing time.
