The argument in favor of using filler text goes something like this: If you use any real content in the Consulting Process anytime you reach.

Building site banners have a harder life than almost any other piece of printed signage. They are tied to Heras fencing, bolted to scaffold, or stretched across hoarding at the exact moment when the site is at its dustiest, noisiest and most exposed. In Brighton and Hove, you can add a few extra challenges to the list: salt-laden air blowing in off the sea, sudden squalls rolling in along the seafront, and strong onshore winds that funnel between buildings on the Steine and along the seafront promenades.
Choose the wrong material and you will watch a brand-new banner start to fray, sag or fade within a couple of months. Choose the right one and the same banner can stay sharp and legible for several years, through every phase of your project. Here is how the main options compare, and which suits which kind of site.
Reinforced PVC (often called heavy-duty banner vinyl) is the default choice for most construction hoarding and boundary fencing, and for good reason. A PVC base is laminated to a woven polyester scrim, which stops it stretching out of shape when the wind pulls on it. Typical weights sit between 440gsm and 650gsm; for exposed coastal sites, the heavier end of that range is worth every penny.
Look for these details when specifying it:
PVC is waterproof, opaque, and printable at large sizes with excellent colour depth, which makes it ideal for bold project boards, developer branding and contact details. Its main drawback is weight and bulk: a 6m by 3m panel is awkward to handle and cannot be stored folded for long without creasing.
On a tall scaffold or a seafront elevation, solid PVC can act like a sail. Mesh banner solves that problem by being perforated, typically with around 30 to 40 per cent open area, so gusts pass straight through instead of battering the print. This reduces the load on the scaffold, the fixings and the banner itself.
Mesh is the sensible specification for:
The trade-off is visual. From directly in front, mesh prints look solid and vibrant; from a sharp angle, you will see through it slightly. That is rarely a problem for a project name or a phone number, but it does mean mesh is less suited to fine print or detailed artwork. Choose a tight mesh with a high-quality print and the difference is minimal.
Woven polyester and PVC-free coated fabrics have grown in popularity, partly for environmental reasons and partly because they simply look smarter. They hang with a natural drape, take rich dye-sublimation colour, and can be printed at photographic quality. They are also lighter to transport and can be folded rather than rolled.
For building sites, textiles work best in sheltered positions: an internal sales suite, a covered walkway, a site cabin wall, or a hoarding that runs along a protected street. In fully exposed locations, a fabric banner will flap more than PVC and needs tensioning properly, ideally with a tensioned frame or a bungee-and-eyelet system rather than rope. Check that any fabric you buy is specified as outdoor-rated with a UV-stable coating; some softer textiles are intended for indoor use only and will break down quickly in British weather.
Material choice is only half the story. A premium PVC banner fixed badly will fail faster than a mid-range one fixed well. Ask for hems that are welded rather than stitched, since stitching creates needle holes that let water in. Specify bungee cord rather than rope where possible, because bungee absorbs movement instead of transferring every gust straight to the eyelet. Use cable ties or stainless fixings in coastal areas, as standard steel corrodes surprisingly quickly in Brighton's salty air.
Also consider how the banner will be cleaned. A light wash with warm soapy water and a soft brush once or twice a year will remove salt deposits and grime, keeping colours bright and preventing abrasive grit from working into the surface. Never use pressure washers on printed areas, and avoid solvent cleaners that can attack the ink.
As a rough guide: reinforced PVC for hoarding, gates and low-level boundary signage where impact and legibility matter most; mesh for scaffold, elevated positions and any location with serious wind exposure; outdoor-rated fabric for sheltered, design-led displays. If your site has several different conditions, there is no rule against mixing, and most effective site schemes do exactly that.
Get the specification right at the start and your project message stays crisp and readable from groundwork through to handover, whatever the Brighton weather decides to throw at it.
