The argument in favor of using filler text goes something like this: If you use any real content in the Consulting Process anytime you reach.

Most independent Brighton businesses don't get a sprawling island stand at a trade show. You get a modest footprint, a table, maybe a shell scheme wall, and a few hours to convince passing visitors that you're worth stopping for. That's not a disadvantage if you use it cleverly. The trick is layering: instead of one big banner doing all the talking, you build a display in bands, so something catches the eye from ten metres away, something else pulls people in from three metres, and a final layer starts the conversation when they're standing in front of you. Layered signage is how small stands punch well above their weight.
Your back wall is the biggest single piece of visual real estate you own, and it's the one visitors see first from across the hall. A printed backdrop turns a blank shell scheme panel into a branded environment. For a typical 3m wide stand, a tension fabric or PVC backdrop at roughly 3m x 2.3m works well, and most suppliers will print it with a pole pocket or velcro-friendly hem so it sits flat without wrinkling.
Keep the backdrop simple. If you cram it with text, nobody reads any of it.
For Brighton businesses working in food, design, wellness or professional services, a backdrop in your brand colours immediately separates you from the row of plain white panels either side. Lightweight fabric backdrops also pack into a holdall, which matters if you're carrying everything on the train.
Most small exhibitors forget that height is free. A pull-up banner takes up less than a square metre of floor and offers two metres of vertical advertising. Two banners placed at the outer corners of your stand act like arms, gently funnelling people towards the middle.
Use them for different jobs rather than repeating the same artwork:
Printed at 850mm x 2000mm on 440gsm PVC with a cassette base, these are the workhorses of local banner printing. They're cheap to reprint when your offer changes, and they roll up into a padded bag you can store behind the table.
The table is where the conversation actually happens, so it deserves graphics too. A fitted printed table throw — often 3m or 4m wide for a standard trestle — hides the ugly venue furniture and gives your stand a finished look. It's the single cheapest upgrade most small businesses can make.
On top of that, layer in:
Everything on the table should be legible from about a metre away. If a visitor has to lean in, the type is too small.
Layered displays aren't only about promotion — they also direct traffic. A floor graphic near the aisle, a small directional sign on the corner of the table, or a printed flag at the outer edge of the stand helps people navigate without needing to ask.
Think about the journey in three distances. From across the hall, your banner and backdrop identify you. From a few metres away, your table throw and counter signage confirm what you offer. Up close, the leave-behind and the smaller signs handle the detail. If each layer repeats your brand but adds one new piece of information, visitors feel oriented rather than overwhelmed.
Order your signage at least two to three weeks before the event, and always request a proof before the full run. Ask for the print-ready artwork dimensions in millimetres, keep text at least 30mm tall for anything read from a distance, and supply images at 300dpi at final size for close-up pieces and 150dpi for large backdrops.
Choose materials to suit how you travel. Fabric backdrops and pull-up banners for anything you carry; rigid PVC or foamex for panels that stay in the car boot. If you exhibit regularly in Brighton, reuse the same frames and simply reprint the graphics when your messaging changes — it's far cheaper than buying new hardware each season.
And pack a small repair kit: cable ties, double-sided tape, a lint roller and a spare set of eyelets will rescue more stands than you'd believe.
